The GEORGE D. RUSSELL was built in 1870 by Bailey Brothers at Toledo, OH U.S. The George D. Russell is a wood hulled schooner with a length of 198 feet, and a width of 34 feet. It displaces 658 tons, and has a load capacity of 597 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Became waterlogged while in tow of propeller TEMPEST, October 30, 1906, and sank twelve miles northeast of Port Sanilac, MI, Lake Huron, and six miles from shore. Crew rescued by propeller WILLIAM A. PAINE. The photograph shows the George D. Russell under way on the Great Lakes.
