Description: The CHICAGO was built in 1879 by Thomas & Sons Quayle at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Chicago is a wood hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 265 feet, and a width of 36 feet. It displaces 1847 tons, and has a load capacity of 1721 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Totally destroyed by fire while lying at Lime Island coal dock, St. Marys River, November 17, 1909, bound for Canadian Soo with cargo of cement and hay. The photograph shows the Chicago under way on the Great Lakes. More information about this vessel is available at the HCGL Website
