Description: The MIDVALE was built in 1917 by Great Lakes Engineering Works at Ashtabula, OH U.S. The Midvale is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 580 feet, and a width of 60 feet. It displaces 8271 tons, and has a load capacity of 6564 tons. It entered service in the year 1917 under the ownership of Johnstown S.S. Co. (M.A. Hanna & Co., Mgrs.) of Cleveland, OH U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Passed down at Detroit, November 18, 1973, for Buffalo, then to Montreal under own power for scrapping. Unofficially renamed "LA," sold to Danish buyers, then resold to Spanish shipbreakers. Arrived in tandem tow, with CRISPIN OGLEBAY, at Santander, Spain, on June 16, 1974, for scrapping.
