Description: The LAFAYETTE was built in 1900 by American Ship Building Co. at Lorain, OH U.S. The Lafayette is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 454 feet, and a width of 50 feet. It displaces 5113 tons, and has a load capacity of 3827 tons. It entered service in the year 1900 under the ownership of Pittsburgh Steamship Co. (Andrew Carnegie) of Cleveland, OH U.S. The photograph shows the Lafayette under way on the Great Lakes. More information about this vessel is available at the HCGL Website
