The LAFAYETTE was built in 1900 by American Ship Building Co. at Lorain, OH U.S. The Lafayette is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 454 feet, and a width of 50 feet. It displaces 5113 tons, and has a load capacity of 3827 tons. It entered service in the year 1900 under the ownership of Pittsburgh Steamship Co.
