Description: The SAM FLINT was built in 1868 by Bailey Brothers at Toledo, OH U.S. The Sam Flint is a wood hulled schooner with 3 masts, a length of 167 feet, and a width of 34 feet. It displaces 499 tons, and has a load capacity of 474 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Stranded on Cockburn Island, Lake Huron, on October 23, 1916, and pounded to pieces; no lives lost. Final enrollment surrendered at Port Huron, MI, on November 7, 1916. The photograph shows the Sam Flint under way on the Great Lakes.
