The EMPIRE CITY was built in 1897 by Cleveland Ship Building Co. at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Empire City is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 405 feet, and a width of 48 feet. It displaces 4118 tons, and has a load capacity of 3268 tons. It entered service in the year 1897 under the ownership of Zenith Transit Co. of Duluth, MN U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Sold in August, 1968, to Marine Salvage, Ltd., Port Colborne, Ontario. Passed down, Welland Canal, for Quebec, on September 11, 1968. Arrived at Santander, Spain, in tow of Dutch tug HUDSON, for scrapping on October 20, 1968.
