The RALEIGH was built in 1871 by Quayle & Martin at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Raleigh is a wood hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 227 feet, and a width of 34 feet. It displaces 980 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Stranded on Point Abino, Lake Erie, about six miles from Port Colborne, Ontario, on November 30, 1911; three lives lost. Vessel was bound from Port Colborne for Erie, PA, with cargo of pulp wood at time of loss. The photograph shows the Raleigh under way on the Great Lakes.
