The J. BARBER was built in 1856 by Luther Moses at Cleveland, OH U.S. The J. Barber is a wood hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 125 feet, and a width of 26 feet. It displaces 263 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Caught fire and burned to waterline, then sank, about ten miles off Michigan City, IN, July 19, 1871, running from St. Joseph, MI, to Chicago, IL, in fruit trade.
