Description: The VEGA was built in 1893 by Globe Iron Works at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Vega is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 301 feet, and a width of 38 feet. It displaces 2143 tons, and has a load capacity of 1734 tons. It entered service in the year 1893 under the ownership of Vega Steamship Co. (Maytham & Drake, Mgrs.) of Cleveland, OH U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Stranded on North Fox Island on November 28, 1905, and broke in two, a total loss. No lives lost. Was downbound from Escanaba, MI, with cargo of iron ore at time of loss. The photograph shows the Vega at Welland Ship Canal; Lock 3.
