The FRANK W. GIFFORD was built in 1868 by Quayle & Martin at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Frank W. Gifford is a wood hulled schooner with a length of 159 feet, and a width of 31 feet. It displaces 451 tons, and has a load capacity of 429 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Sprung a leak in heavy weather in mid-lake, off Point Betsey, Lake Michigan, October 21, 1897, and sank; crew rescued from life boat by schooner CITY OF SHEBOYGAN.
