Description: The FOUNTAIN CITY was built in 1857 by Peck & Masters at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Fountain City is a wood hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 209 feet, and a width of 30 feet. It displaces 820 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Partially burned at coal dock, Sturgeon Bay, WI, on May 5, 1896; declared a total loss. Final enrollment surrendered at Chicago, IL, May 16, 1896, and endorsed "vessel burned." The photograph shows the Fountain City under way on the Great Lakes.
