The ROBERT L. IRELAND was built in 1914 by American Ship Building Co. at Lorain, OH U.S. The Robert L. Ireland is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 504 feet, and a width of 54 feet. It displaces 6387 tons, and has a load capacity of 4899 tons. It entered service in the year 1914 under the ownership of Kinney Steamship Co. (A.T. Kinney, Mgr.) of Cleveland, OH U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Declared a constructive total loss and sold in August, 1958, to Knudsen Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co., Superior, WI. Converted to a floating dry dock in 1961, under firm name of Fraser-Nelson Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co. (434 feet long). The photograph shows the Robert L. Ireland under way on the Great Lakes.
