WebQuests

The WebQuest model, developed by Bernie Dodge (San Diego State University) with Tom March in 1995, provides teachers and librarians with a natural vehicle for teaching information literacy skills. Teachers struggle with the complexity of efficiently integrating internet resources into the classroom. WebQuests offer an innovative inquiry-based framework for Internet and information literacy instruction where most, if not all, of the activities and resources are navigated using the Web. Small collaborative learning groups encourage students to critically evaluate and synthesize information in relation to a focused task. As students navigate a well-written WebQuest they seamlessly explore new knowledge while gaining important skills in locating and evaluating information from a variety of sources, in essence, embedding information literacy into the P-12 learning environment.
