The ATMOSPHERE was built in 1863 by William Shupe at Milan, OH U.S. The Atmosphere is a wood hulled schooner with a length of 134 feet, and a width of 25 feet. It displaces 275 tons, and has a load capacity of 261 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Abandoned as unfit for service. Final enrollment surrendered at Port Huron, MI, on May 21, 1924. The photograph shows the Atmosphere under way on the Great Lakes.
