Description: The WOCOKEN was built in 1880 by Thomas Quayle's Sons at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Wocoken is a wood hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 251 feet, and a width of 37 feet. It displaces 1400 tons, and has a load capacity of 1179 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Foundered on October 14, 1893, 1 1/2 miles off Clear Creek, Ontario, Lake Erie, in 48 feet of water; 14 lives lost. Three saved by Long Point Life Saving crew. Vessel was bound from Ashtabula, OH, for Duluth, with coal, with schooner barge JOSEPH PAIGE in tow. The photograph shows the Wocoken at Cleveland, OH.
