The J.M. JENKS was built in 1902 by American Ship Building Co. at Lorain, OH U.S. The J.M. Jenks is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 414 feet, and a width of 50 feet. It displaces 4644 tons, and has a load capacity of 3381 tons. It entered service in the year 1902 under the ownership of Acme Transit Co. (H.A. Hawgood & Co., Mgrs.) of Cleveland, OH U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Departed Cleveland, April 25, 1964, for Buffalo in tow of tug JOHN PURVES, to load scrap for Europe. Passed down through Welland Canal, June 4, 1964, in tow of tug FOUNDATION VALOR. Arrived in tow at Hamburg, Germany, August 19, 1964, for scrapping by Eisen und Metall, A.G.
