The STEELTON was built in 1943 by Great Lakes Engineering Works at Ashtabula, OH U.S. The Steelton is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 603 feet, and a width of 60 feet. It displaces 9057 tons, and has a load capacity of 6793 tons. It entered service in the year 1943 under the ownership of U.S. Maritime Commission of Washington, DC U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Sold to International Marine Salvage for scrapping in 1994.
