Description: The GOLDEN FLEECE was built in 1862 by Peck and Masters at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Golden Fleece is a bark with 3 masts, a length of 161 feet, and a width of 31 feet. It displaces 609 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Driven ashore 3 miles west of Dunkirk, NY, Lake Erie, at Canadaway Creek on 10/17/1890, bound light from Buffalo, NY, for Erie, PA; no lives lost. After an unsuccessful salvage attempt, final enrollment surrendered at Cleveland, OH, December 12, 1892. The photograph shows the Golden Fleece under way on the Great Lakes.
