dc.description The PHINEAS S. MARSH was built in 1867 by William A. Jones at Black River (Lorain), OH U.S. The Phineas S. Marsh is a wood hulled bark with 3 masts, a length of 177 feet, and a width of 31 feet. It displaces 543 tons, and has a load capacity of 515 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Vessel driven ashore five miles east of Two Heart River, MI, Lake Superior, August 26, 1896; no lives lost. Vessel bound from Portage, MI, for Ashtabula, OH, with cargo of stone at time of loss. Final enrollment surrendered at Cleveland, OH, December 1, 1896, and endorsed "wrecked."
