Description: The EUGENE J. BUFFINGTON was built in 1909 by American Ship Building Co. at Lorain, OH U.S. The Eugene J. Buffington is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 580 feet, and a width of 58 feet. It displaces 7528 tons, and has a load capacity of 5839 tons. It entered service in the year 1909 under the ownership of Pittsburg Steamship Co. of Cleveland, OH U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Departed Quebec in tow of tug HIRTENTURM, in tandem with J.P. MORGAN, JR., on October 4, 1980, and arrived at Bilbao, Spain, on October 22, 1980, for scrapping. Towed to Gijon, Spain, on November 14, 1980, for scrapping. Scrapped by Desguaces Aviles at San Esteban de Pravia. The photograph shows the Eugene J. Buffington at Downbound the Detroit River.
