dc.description The GENERAL GRATIOT was built in 1831 by Augustus Jones at Black River (Lorain), OH U.S. The General Gratiot is a wood hulled steamer with a length of 84 feet, and a width of 14 feet. It displaces 45 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Last enrollment, issued at Detroit, MI, April 1, 1839, never surrendered. Vessel reportedly broken up in 1841. The photograph shows the General Gratiot under way on the Great Lakes.
