Description: The NEPTUNE was built in 1901 by American Ship Building Co. at Lorain, OH U.S. The Neptune is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 346 feet, and a width of 48 feet. It displaces 3717 tons, and has a load capacity of 2773 tons. It entered service in the year 1901 under the ownership of Gilchrist Transportation Co. of Cleveland, OH U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Passed down, Port Colborne, Ont., September 14, 1969, under own power, on last trip. Arrived in tow at Vado, Italy, for scrapping, prior to July 16, 1970. The photograph shows the Neptune under way on the Great Lakes.
