Description: The FRED G. HARTWELL was built in 1922 by American Ship Building Co. at Lorain, OH U.S. The Fred G. Hartwell is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 602 feet, and a width of 64 feet. It displaces 8889 tons, and has a load capacity of 6942 tons. It entered service in the year 1922 under the ownership of Franklin Steamship Co. (H.K. Oakes, Mgr.) of Duluth, MN U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Arrived in tow with CONALLISON at Aviles, Spain, on September 17, 1984. Scrapping began by Desguaces Vige, September 26, 1984, at San Esteban de Pravia. The photograph shows the Fred G. Hartwell at St. Clair River.
