Description: The CORMORANT was built in 1873 by Louis Lafrinnier at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Cormorant is a wood hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 218 feet, and a width of 34 feet. It displaces 872 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Burned off Bass Island, Lake Superior, on October 30, 1907, bound for Duluth, light, with schooner HELVETIA in tow; no lives lost. Hull raised and towed into Duluth, MN, on December 9, 1909, where machinery was salvaged and hull destroyed. The photograph shows the Cormorant under way on the Great Lakes.
