Description: The JOHN J. BARLUM was built in 1890 by Craig Shipbuilding Co. at Toledo, OH U.S. The John J. Barlum is a wood hulled schooner with a length of 222 feet, and a width of 40 feet. It displaces 1184 tons, and has a load capacity of 1125 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Vessel sprung a leak while in tow of tug GUARDIAN, outbound with coal from Sandusky, OH, September 18, 1922, and sank three and five-eights miles, 32 degrees from Sandusky harbor entrance. Vessel removed to thirty foot low water datum by Corps of Engineers in May, 1923. The photograph shows the John J. Barlum under way on the Great Lakes.
