The WESTERN RESERVE was built in 1890 by Cleveland Ship Building Co. at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Western Reserve is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 300 feet, and a width of 41 feet. It displaces 2392 tons, and has a load capacity of 1965 tons. It entered service in the year 1890 under the ownership of Peter G. Minch, et.al. of Cleveland, OH U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Foundered about sixty miles above Whitefish Point, Lake Superior, on August 30, 1892; 31 lives lost. Only one life saved. Final enrollment surrendered at Cleveland, OH, October 1, 1892. The photograph shows the Western Reserve under way on the Great Lakes.
