Description: The E. COHEN was built in 1867 by H.D. Root at Black River (Lorain), OH U.S. The E. Cohen is a wood hulled brig with 2 masts, a length of 116 feet, and a width of 26 feet. It displaces 205 tons, and has a load capacity of 194 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Broke loose from propeller EIGHTH OHIO, October 18, 1890, and drifted ashore near Port Hope, MI, Lake Huron; no lives lost. Final enrollment surrendered at Buffalo, NY, February 16, 1891, and endorsed "Total Loss." The photograph shows the E. Cohen under way on the Great Lakes.
