Description: The MARIPOSA was built in 1892 by Globe Iron Works at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Mariposa is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 330 feet, and a width of 45 feet. It displaces 2831 tons, and has a load capacity of 2306 tons. It entered service in the year 1892 under the ownership of Minnesota Steamship Co. of Duluth, MN U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Scrapped by Steel Co. of Canada, Ltd., at Hamilton, Ontario, in 1947. After lying at Erie, PA, 1945-1946, passed down, Port Colborne, November 30, 1946, in tow of tugs HELENA and TOWMASTER. Wintered in canal; passed down, Port Weller, May 15, 1947, in tow of same tugs, bound for Hamilton, Ontario. The photograph shows the Mariposa under way on the Great Lakes.
