The NORTH WIND was built in 1888 by Globe Iron Works at Cleveland, OH U.S. The North Wind is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 299 feet, and a width of 40 feet. It displaces 2476 tons, and has a load capacity of 1885 tons. It entered service in the year 1888 under the ownership of Northern Steamship Co. of Buffalo, NY U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Stranded on Robertson Rock, Clapperton Island, Georgian Bay, on July 1, 1926. Two hours later, slid off into deep water and sank. No lives lost. The photograph shows the North Wind under way on the Great Lakes.
