The C.B. BENSON was built in 1873 by John Duff at Port Clinton, OH U.S. The C.B. Benson is a wood hulled schooner with 3 masts, a length of 136 feet, and a width of 26 feet. It displaces 298 tons, and has a load capacity of 283 tons. It entered service in the year 1873 under the ownership of A. Andrews of Toledo, OH U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Foundered in eighty feet of water, Gravelly Bay, Ontario, Lake Erie, on October 15, 1893, with all hands; seven lives lost. Vessel was bound from Erie, PA, for Detroit, MI, with cargo of coal. The photograph shows the C.B. Benson under way on the Great Lakes.
