Description: The SAHARA was built in 1904 by American Ship Building Co. at Lorain, OH U.S. The Sahara is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 474 feet, and a width of 52 feet. It displaces 5785 tons, and has a load capacity of 4497 tons. It entered service in the year 1904 under the ownership of Globe Steamship Co. (G.A. Tomlinson, Mgr.) of Duluth, MN U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Sold to Marine Salvage, Ltd., Port Colborne, Ont., 1960. Scrapped by Steel Co. of Canada, Ltd., Hamilton, Ont., in 1961. The photograph shows the Sahara under way on the Great Lakes. More information about this vessel is available at the HCGL Website
