The COLUMBUS was built in 1835 by Burton S. Goodsell at Huron, OH U.S. The Columbus is a wood hulled steamer with a length of 131 feet, and a width of 28 feet. It displaces 391 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Stranded on reef near pier while entering Dunkirk, NY, Lake Erie, on March 28, 1848. Sank and pounded to pieces by waves. The photograph shows the Columbus under way on the Great Lakes.
