The J.E. UPSON was built in 1908 by American Ship Building Co. at Cleveland, OH U.S. The J.E. Upson is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 504 feet, and a width of 54 feet. It displaces 6309 tons, and has a load capacity of 4853 tons. It entered service in the year 1908 under the ownership of Wilson Transit Co. of Cleveland, OH U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Passed down, Port Colborne, Ont., July 31, 1969, in tow of German tugs FAIRPLAY NO. 10 and FAIRPLAY NO. 12. Arrived in tow of FAIRPLAY 12 at Santander Spain, September 25, 1969, for scrapping. The photograph shows the J.E. Upson under way on the Great Lakes.
