Description: The HESPER was built in 1890 by William R. Radcliffe at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Hesper is a wood hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 250 feet, and a width of 41 feet. It displaces 1858 tons, and has a load capacity of 1539 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Stranded at Beaver Bay, north shore of Lake Superior, May 5, 1905, during heavy weather and poor visibility; went to pieces. No lives lost. The photograph shows the Hesper under way on the Great Lakes. More information about this vessel is available at the HCGL Website
