dc.description The SURPRISE was built in 1856 by Henry Kelley at Milan, OH U.S. The Surprise is a wood hulled schooner with 3 masts, a length of 120 feet, and a width of 24 feet. It displaces 299 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Final enrollment surrendered at Milwaukee, WI, May 23, 1900, and endorsed "abandoned." The photograph shows the Surprise under way on the Great Lakes.
