The PHOENIX was built in 1845 by George W. Jones at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Phoenix is a wood hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 144 feet, and a width of 26 feet. It displaces 302 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Burned seven miles off Sheboygan, WI, Lake Michigan, on November 21, 1847. Estimated number of lives lost runs from 160 to 200 persons; about fifty lives saved. Hull later towed into shallow water near Sheboygan by propeller DELAWARE.
