The J.S. ASHLEY was built in 1909 by American Ship Building Co. at Lorain, OH U.S. The J.S. Ashley is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 504 feet, and a width of 54 feet. It displaces 6361 tons, and has a load capacity of 5835 tons. It entered service in the year 1909 under the ownership of Kinney Steamship Co. of Cleveland, OH U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Sold to A. Newman & Co.; arrived at Port Maitland, Ontario, October 13, 1980, for scrapping. The photograph shows the J.S. Ashley under way on the Great Lakes.
