The CITY OF GRAND RAPIDS was built in 1912 by American Ship Building Co. at Cleveland, OH U.S. The City Of Grand Rapids is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 291 feet, and a width of 48 feet. It displaces 3061 tons, and has a load capacity of 1572 tons. It entered service in the year 1912 under the ownership of Graham & Morton Transportation Co. of Chicago, IL U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Laid up at Benton Harbor, MI, 1951. Sold to Hyman-Michaels Corp., Chicago, and resold to Steel Co. of Canada, Ltd., Hamilton, Ont., in 1952. Cleared Benton Harbor in tow of tug HELENA, November 3, 1952, for scrapping at Hamilton, Ont.
