Description: The CARMI A. THOMPSON was built in 1917 by American Ship Building Co. at Lorain, OH U.S. The Carmi A. Thompson is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 525 feet, and a width of 58 feet. It displaces 7038 tons, and has a load capacity of 5658 tons. It entered service in the year 1917 under the ownership of Producers Steamship Co. (M.A. Hanna & Co., Mgrs.) of Cleveland, OH U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Passed down Welland Canal, December 12, 1971, for Prescott, Ont., with grain. Returned to Welland Canal, upbound on December 17, then grounded temporarily the following day as she entered scrapping berth at Rameys Bend, Humberstone, Ont., for scrapping by Marine Salvage, Ltd.
