Description: The JOHN STANTON was built in 1905 by American Ship Building Co. at Lorain, OH U.S. The John Stanton is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 504 feet, and a width of 54 feet. It displaces 6129 tons, and has a load capacity of 4668 tons. It entered service in the year 1905 under the ownership of Pioneer Steamship Co. (Hutchinson & Co., Mgrs.) of Cleveland, OH U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Sold to Marine Salvage, Ltd., Port Colborne, Ont., and resold to Fraser-Nelson Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co., Superior, WI, in August, 1961, for scrapping. Scrapped at Superior in winter, 1961-1962. The photograph shows the John Stanton under way on the Great Lakes. More information about this vessel is available at the HCGL Website
