The NEGAUNEE was built in 1867 by Isaac W. Nicholas at Vermilion, OH U.S. The Negaunee is a wood hulled schooner with 3 masts, a length of 195 feet, and a width of 33 feet. It displaces 640 tons, and has a load capacity of 608 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: While in tow of propeller CITY OF CONCORD, stranded during gale on beach at Cedar Point, Sandusky, OH, Lake Erie, on September 30, 1906; no lives lost. Towing steamer sank with loss of three lives; vessels bound from Lorain, OH, for St. Clair, MI, at time of loss. The photograph shows the Negaunee under way on the Great Lakes.
