The ELBA was built in 1907 by American Ship Building Co. at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Elba is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 420 feet, and a width of 52 feet. It displaces 4963 tons, and has a load capacity of 3621 tons. It entered service in the year 1907 under the ownership of Lackawanna Steamship Co. (Pickands-Mather and Co., Mgrs.) of Cleveland, OH U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Sold summer, 1968, to Waterman Steamship Co., to be used as "trade-in" tonnage to U.S. Maritime Commission. Sold at public auction by the latter, December 4, 1968, for $27,000 to Peterson Builders, Inc., Sturgeon Bay, WI, for use as floating dock. Towed up, Detroit, Dec. 10, 1968 by tug JOHN PURVES.
