The PURITAN was built in 1901 by Craig Shipbuilding Co. at Toledo, OH U.S. The Puritan is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 233 feet, and a width of 40 feet. It displaces 1547 tons, and has a load capacity of 1052 tons. It entered service in the year 1901 under the ownership of Graham & Morton Transportation Co. of Milwaukee, WI U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Struck Rock of Ages Reef, Isle Royale, Lake Superior, on May 27, 1933, bound from Hancock, MI, for Fort William, Ont., slid off into deep water shortly thereafter. No lives lost. The photograph shows the Puritan under way on the Great Lakes.
