The CRAIGROWNIE was built in 1919 by Great Lakes Engineering Works at Ashtabula, OH U.S. The Craigrownie is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 253 feet, and a width of 43 feet. It displaces 2496 tons, and has a load capacity of 1490 tons. It entered service in the year 1919 under the ownership of U.S. Shipping Board of Washington, DC U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Torpedoed and sunk by German submarine in Caribbean Sea east of Cuba on March 12, 1942. The photograph shows the Craigrownie under way on the Great Lakes.
