Description: The JOSEPH G. MASTEN was built in 1867 by Quayle & Martin at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Joseph G. Masten is a wood hulled bark with a length of 186 feet, and a width of 33 feet. It displaces 620 tons, and has a load capacity of 589 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: In tow of propeller KEYSTONE, stranded on Twin River Point, WI, Lake Michigan, just south of lighthouse, on December 4, 1897; no lives lost. Was bound from Lorain, OH, for Milwaukee, WI, with coal at time of loss. The photograph shows the Joseph G. Masten under way on the Great Lakes.
