The RENSSELAER was built in 1900 by American Ship Building Co. at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Rensselaer is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 454 feet, and a width of 50 feet. It displaces 5124 tons, and has a load capacity of 3827 tons. It entered service in the year 1900 under the ownership of Pittsburgh Steamship Co. of Cleveland, OH U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Scrapped by Steel Co. of Canada, Ltd., Hamilton, Ontario, in 1947. After lying at Erie, PA, 1945-1946, passed down Port Colborne, December 7, 1946, in tow of tugs HELENA and TOWMASTER, bound for Hamilton, Ontario.
