Description: The FRED G. HARTWELL was built in 1908 by Toledo Shipbuilding Co. at Toledo, OH U.S. The Fred G. Hartwell is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 514 feet, and a width of 58 feet. It displaces 6223 tons, and has a load capacity of 4865 tons. It entered service in the year 1908 under the ownership of Mutual Steamship Co. (G.A. Tomlinson, Mgr.) of Duluth, MN U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Passed down Port Colborne, August 9, 1969, in tow of German tugs FAIRPLAY NO. 10 and FAIRPLAY NO. 12. Arrived in tow with PHILIP MINCH, behind Polish tug JANTAR, at Santandar, Spain, on September 27, 1969, for scrapping. The photograph shows the Fred G. Hartwell at Upbound the St. Marys River.
