Description: The LAKE FRESCO was built in 1919 by American Ship Building Co. at Lorain, OH U.S. The Lake Fresco is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 251 feet, and a width of 43 feet. It displaces 2622 tons, and has a load capacity of 1617 tons. It entered service in the year 1919 under the ownership of U.S. Shipping Board of Washington, DC U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Torpedoed and sunk between Puerto Rico and New Orleans, on May 27, 1942. Was bound from Ponce, Puerto Rico; with cargo of sugar. Vessel sank in four minutes; several survivors picked up after 32 days on a life raft. The photograph shows the Lake Fresco at St. Clair River.
