The GERMAN was built in 1891 by Globe Iron Works at Cleveland, OH U.S. The German is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 296 feet, and a width of 40 feet. It displaces 2348 tons, and has a load capacity of 1875 tons. It entered service in the year 1891 under the ownership of Menominee Transit Co. (M.A. Hanna Co., Mgrs.) of Cleveland, OH U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Sunk in collision with Italian steamer ARGENTINA off Fire Island, New York, June 11, 1918. No lives lost. The photograph shows the German under way on the Great Lakes.
