Description: The SAMUEL H. FOSTER was built in 1873 by Louis Laffrinier at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Samuel H. Foster is a wood hulled schooner with 3 masts, a length of 189 feet, and a width of 33 feet. It displaces 720 tons, and has a load capacity of 684 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Driven ashore fourteen miles west of Portage Ship Canal, MI, Lake Superior, on October 9, 1906, along with barge WAYNE, while in tow of propeller L.L. BARTH; no lives lost. Was upbound light at time of loss. The photograph shows the Samuel H. Foster under way on the Great Lakes. More information about this vessel is available at the HCGL Website
